Online Videos

Both of these videos are very old and I believe that since times have changed so has the job market.  Starting with technology our computers, cell phones and any other electronic devices that are used for jobs in today’s world will always have an impact on ones future.
These videos are helpful in a way but to be honest in today’s society it is who you know not what you know.  Unfortunately this concept will get worst as the years go on especially in big corporate businesses.  However this past summer I was fortunate and my dad who is an electrician in New York City and is part of Local 3 Union got me a job for the summer through his union.  I worked in the city every day over the summer and I was considered a college helper for the electricians at their job site.  As I was watching these videos I noted to myself some of the key points that stood out to help you succeed in the job market or what is called the real world.
Throughout the first video it talks about finding jobs and how the job hunt takes forever and be harder than actually landing the job. Then it goes on to talk about how to search for jobs and they suggested using the internet.  However some of these job websites online can be scams and end up backfiring on you.  It also takes about the whole job process in making a resume and coming prepared to the interview and making your first impression to your future boss.
Within the second video it talks about many ways and the correct ways to put together a resume.  After watching this video I learned a couple of tricks in order to improve a resume.  However when I was in high school my older sister who was in college at the time about to graduate told me to start putting together a resume.  It might have been one of the greatest advices my sister gave me because resumes are very important and you never know when you might need to use it.  She also told me to constantly keep it up to date and add any important accomplishments to it.  Now between this videos advice and my sister’s advice my resume should be formatted and look pretty professional which will hopefully help me land a job in the near future.

I have had plenty of experience with writing resumes because I did one while I was in high school.  I didn't actually do one in class my older sister suggested to me to make one.  So she helped me through the whole process.  I trusted her that she was telling me the correct format and way to put together a resume because she just graduated from Suny Geneseo and in no longer than a month had a job in New York City working for KPMG.  So if she got a job straight out of college in the city her resume must have been formatted right and well written.
Then once I got to college in one of my classes last year we were asked to put together a resume and mine was already finished and my teacher told me it was good and just had some minor mistakes.  However though every teacher has their own way of telling you how to put together a resume.  Some teachers will tell you only one page and others more than one.  I believe the number of pages doesn't matter and its the information that you are providing in your resume that matters the most.  It shouldn't matter how long your resume is technically if it is longer that means you have had more experience with jobs.
With resumes you should also be constantly adding information to them and keeping them up to date. For example when I go to write this resume for our class I will have to add my work experience that I had from over the summer in New York City.  Resumes are an important factor when it comes to looking for jobs and you want to make sure they look as professional as possible.

Example of Persuasive Writing

In this letter that was well written it talks about how people choose not to clean up beaches which leads to harmful consequences in our environment and for the marine life.  After reading this letter I was persuaded myself because I also witness this every summer when I go on vacation and I strongly agree with her in making this a law if isn't already one.  The format of this writing would be a persuasive internal request because she uses logical and character based appeals to state her reasoning.  Even though she is writing this request to the governor of California her audience can also be the public or anyone who has viewed her writing because it does have a purpose and can make a difference in the community.  Her voice in this request isn't demanding one bit but it she does show a little urgency by stating all of her reasons in why not to leave trash on the beach.  She uses real life scenarios and situations, for example turtles and seagulls eating the trash which harms these animals because they have no clue what their eating.  As a reader or viewer of this message I was persuaded and now every-time I go to the beach this message will pop into my head and will remind me to pick up any trash that is laying around.  In this message Lizzie who was the author could have done a little better in using the you-viewpoint and not be focusing on so much what she thought of everything and giving her opinion throughout the message.

Negative News

Whenever I receive negative news or responses I tend to get very upset and even frustrated depending on the circumstance of the news.  Within these emotions I usually will think about the news for a while but in order to forget about the news for a little and take my mind off it I will go and do an activity that I enjoy.  Most of the time I will go to the gym to release my stress and anger about the news and then once I do that I feel a lot better.  Obviously I will still be thinking about the news but by going to the gym it takes some pressure of my mind and allows myself to calm down and believe that everything is going to be alright in the end.  An example of some negative news that occurred recently was when I received a phone call from my dad telling me that my mom was in the hospital because of her diabetes and sugar levels were very low which leads her not able to function.  It has happened before in the past where I have witnessed it and it is a very scary moment.  Since I am about 13 hours away I couldn't do anything about it but think about it and just pray that she was going to be fine.  In the end she was fine but anytime it could happen again so I always have to be on my toes for negative news and be able to cope with it.  Negative news affects your response because your already feeling down and in your response you will be showing your emotions to your readers.

Sample Letter

In this sample letter that I chose a cover letter to a response to a Catalog Request.  This cover letter shows professionalism.  This letter is well written and tells its audience straight to the point what the catalog is about and grabs the readers attention.  The letter has the correct format and is spaced out in the correct spots and provides interest to their customer by saying "we look forward to answering any questions you have about our product."

Web SItes

I think business web sites are necessary for a business to be successful.  As long as the website is organized in a proper manner and the information is appropriate and to the point for its audience then every business should have some type of website.  Many companies still communicate through websites because with the way our technology is going it is easier for workers to communicate with their co-workers and bosses.  Web sites will also provide you with your business' information and your tasks for the week along with reminders and many other attributes that will help you succeed.

Insurance Email

Throughout this email I realized it is making its point in a clear and precise way but there are some flaws where they could of cleared it up some more.  For example, when it talks about being in separate groups and how you won't receive an email if your not in that group.  I think they should of left that part out and made that more personal and send them their own email about the groups instead of one email stating the groups.
